Real Estate License Cost in WA: What’s the Price?

If you are considering becoming a real estate agent, you must be aware of all the costs involved with getting your license in Washington. The real estate license cost in WA will include pre-license education costs, licensing fees, and exam fees.

Cost of Pre-License Education – $200 to $600

Acquiring a real estate license in Washington State requires taking an approved pre-license education course, which can be found through accredited real estate schools in WA.

Exam Fee – $138.25 per attempt

To obtain a real estate license in Washington State, you must pass the exam administered by Applied Measurement Professionals (AMP) and PSI. This computer-based exam consists of two parts: the national portion and the state portion.

The national portion of this exam consists of 100 questions, while the state portion has 30. You’ll have three and a half hours to finish each portion, and you must answer at least 70 questions on each to pass.

Background Check & Fingerprinting – $42.80

You will need to have a background check done, along with fingerprinting, after you pass the real estate exam. This process is done by using MorthoTrust’s IdentiGo to submit your electronic fingerprints. There are many locations in Washington you can use and you can schedule your fingerprint appointment online.

After your fingerprints have been submitted to the Washington State Patrol and the FBI, the results will be sent back to the Washington Real Estate Licensing Department. You will actually need to have a background check done every six years as a real estate agent in Washington.

If you have criminal offenses or judgments, you may not be eligible for a Washington real estate license.

Application – $146.25

You will also need to submit an application through Washington’s SecureAccess system. Your application can also be sent by mail if you prefer.
